FSSAI Registration (FSSAI License)

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is an autonomous authority that offers a food license to all food business operators (FBO) in India. All FBOs are required to get a license or registration and follow the rules and regulations of FSSAI.
An FBO requires an FSSAI License or Registration and it all depends on certain things like the turnover, size of production, managing nature of food business activities, and range of operations. FSSAI Registration ensures the security of food products.

  • FSSAI Registration is a 14-digit number and contains the basic details of the FBO and category of license and nature of food.
  • FSSAI license is bifurcated into three categories i.e.
  • Basic Registration for an annual turnover of less than INR.12 lakh.
  • State Registration for annual turnover between INR.12 Lakh- INR.20 crores.
  • Central Registration for annual turnover more than INR.20 crores.
  • FSSAI application can be submitted online upon the payment of applicable fees.
  • Documents required Form A or B to be filled on the basis of registration type.
  • Assistance with the drafting of applications and legal documentation.
  • FSSAI license can be obtained between one to five years.
  • Renewal of FSSAI 30 days before the expiry of the license.

Documentation Required for registration-

  • Form A or B, as required
  • Declaration by the Proprietor or Partner or Director, that they will comply with the updated Rules and Regulations under FSSAI
  • Authority letter/Board Resolution
  • Photo ID proof of the Proprietor or Partner or Director
  • Copy of Property paper (In case of owned property)
  • Copy of Rent agreement (In case of rented property)
  • Electricity/ Water bill (Business Place)
  • Copy of Aadhaar Card/ Voter identity card of Proprietor/ Partners/ Director
  • Registering authority may ask for additional information and documents on case to case basis.

The government department will take 45-60 working days to completely review your application and approve the same.  The department may also ask for additional information or documents or an edition of the application in that case you need to reply in 15 days else the application will get rejected.

Penal action will be taken against the FBO in case of non-compliance of FSSAI rules and regulations.
